Frozen pipes!

Its that time of year again! the temperature has dropped and there is ice around. We have had some clients with frozen or burst outside water taps already. If you find a pipe is frozen, put a hot water bottle on the pipe this may take several hours. Alternatively, wrap some towels soaked in hot water around the frozen pipe and then pour more hot (but not boiling) water on to the frozen part until it has completely thawed out.
Prevention is better than cure so to stop your exposed pipes freezing, lagging is easy to fit. Modern lagging comes as insulated foam tubes which are split so can be popped over the pipe. It is readily available at most DIY shops and simply cuts to size with scissors or a sharp knife.
